1st Malaysia Pharmacogenomics Summit 2024 was an exclusive platform for experts, researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders to converge, mingle, and explore the latest advancements in Pharmacogenomics (PGx). The inaugural Malaysia Pharmacogenomics Summit brought together over 300 experts, clinicians, and researchers to discuss the future of personalized medicine. Key discussions focused on case studies, clinical implementations, and the regulatory frameworks such as the NHS to advance pharmacogenetics in the region.

Objectives

Pharmacogenomics is Pivotal in Precision Medicine: The primary objective of the summit is to highlight the pivotal role of Pharmacogenomics (PGx) in the field of precision medicine. PGx has the potential to revolutionise the practice medicine and this summit intends to showcase its potential to healthcare professionals via presentations from the international experts and thought leaders. Through this, the summit seek to inspire a collective commitment in embracing innovation to improve patient outcomes.
Providing a Global Perspective and Knowledge Sharing on Pharmacogenomics: The summit’s panel of speakers from the UK, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia will provide a global perspective to participants through the sharing of best practices and experience in PGx implementation. The global impact of PGx in health service delivery, medication safety and better therapeutic outcomes will be highlighted and participants encouraged to consider it for their own professional practice.
Encouraging the Implementation of Pharmacogenomics: PGx implementation is a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genetic testing into clinical practice. It enables the healthcare professional to optimise medication selection and the dosing of pharmacotherapy for the individual’s unique needs, thus improving therapeutic outcomes. Ultimately, this will improve public health and lower healthcare costs by increasing treatment efficacy and reducing adverse medication events. The summit will also encourage participants to evaluate the current evidence on PGx, the infrastructure required for its implementation (such as electronic health records and clinical workflows), result interpretation and clinical treatment decision making and quality assurance.
